What is Root ?
In mathematics, the root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself a certain number of
times, gives the original number.
Types of Roots
Square root (√)
The square root of a number is a value that, when squared (multiplied by itself), equals that
number.
Because 3 × 3 = 9
Because 5 × 5 = 25
Cube Root (³√)
The cube root of a number is the value that, when used in multiplication three times, gives the
original number.
Because 2 × 2 × 2 = 8
Because 3 × 3 × 3 = 27
Nth root (ⁿ√)
Finding a number that, when multiplied by itself 'n' times, equals the original number.
Example:
4th root of 16: √⁴16 = 2, because 2⁴ = 16
5th root of 32: √⁵32 = 2, because 2⁵ = 32
How to Use This Online Root Calculator ?
1
Enter a positive number in the first field (e.g., 16, 27, 100).
2
Select the type of root you want to calculate:
- Square Root (√) - finds the number
that, when multiplied by itself, gives your input
- Cube Root (∛) - finds the number that,
when cubed, gives your input
- Custom Root - allows you to specify any
root (4th, 5th, etc.)
3
If you selected "Custom Root", enter the root value (e.g., 4
for fourth root).
4
Click the "Calculate" button to see your result.
5
Your calculation will be saved in the history section below.
Examples:
- Square root of 16 = 4 (because 4 × 4 = 16)
- Cube root of 27 = 3 (because 3 × 3 × 3 = 27)
- 4th root of 16 = 2 (because 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16)
Tip: Use the "Clear" button to reset all fields and
start a new calculation.
